Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah is an all volunteer fire department located in
the northeastern corner of Kershaw County about 25 miles from
Camden. We are a member of the Kershaw County Fire Service,
serving the Mt. Pisgah, Buffalo, Abney, Gates Ford, and Timrod
Communities. The Chief is the main officer in control of the
department. The fire department is a separate organization and
is not associated with the Mt. Pisgah-Buffalo Rescue Squad.
Being one of the first rural fire departments in Kershaw County, the department was started in 1967 by community
members (See History page for more
details). Today, we operate out of 2 stations that protects a primarily residential/agricultural area of
88 square
miles, the largest district in Kershaw County. Currently we have 19 active members,
6 are certified interior structural firefighters. Of those
six, two are certified to NFPA Firefighter II level. 14 are certified Medical First
Responders. We have an ISO rating of 7/10. We are dispatched to our calls by Kershaw County
911 Dispatch out of Camden.
We receive/provide mutual aid from/to
Kershaw County Stations: 14 (Cassatt), 18 (Westville), 20
(Bethune) Lancaster County
Stations: 7 (Flat Creek) , 11 (Kershaw) and Chesterfield County:
Sandhill Fire Dept. We are funded by property
taxes of the residents we serve, donations, and fundraisers. We are
always needing volunteers and welcome anyone who wishes to do so to

State Law requires
notification before burning, providing adequate breaks around the
fire, and staying with the fire. Law also states that you
cannot
burn the following items: Paint, Cardboard, Tires, Household
Chemicals, Metals, Construction Debris, Dead Animals, Asphalt, Plastic
Materials, Treated Wood, Petroleum Products, Paper, or Garbage.
